Frequently asked questions

Terraform or OpenTofu?

OpenTofu is an open source fork of Terraform and largely compatible. The concepts and most commands in this course apply to both.

Do I need a cloud account?

No: the labs use LocalStack (emulated AWS APIs), MinIO (S3 backend) and terraform test mock providers.

Does Terraform replace Ansible?

No, they complement each other: Terraform creates infrastructure (networks, VMs, managed services), Ansible configures systems and applications.
